My Muse

phew....I have been struggling with some life changing decisions lately regarding photography school and have finally come to an acceptable resolution for myself.

So, having said that, i treated myself to a new toy which also services as my "muse".

This is the Olympus Digital Pen E-P1.It is a  Micro Four Thirds camera with the photographic optics of an SLR and the size and simplicity of a point and shoot with interchangeable lens.
Anyone that has heard of this camera, knows that it is an awesome small  camera....
What is interesting  is that my last few film cameras and first digital camera were Olympus-es and I loved them...nice to have one again.

Photography is my passion and photographing people fuels my passion. I love to capture that exact moment of surprise, joy, happiness, contemplation etc. When I hear that sound of the shutter and know that I have gotten just that "right" expression....i feel the excitment in the pit of my stomach...and I smile.

It was a beautiful January day...the sun was shining, the sky was a brilliant blue and the snow was glistening all around.

Had a fabulous day snow shoeing for an hour and 1/2 at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport MA.
Great work out for sure.

Purchased this new book yesterday by photographer David duChemin.
Started reading it last night...I am gonna love it.
It is an amazing book on a photographer's vision
and finding your own vision and inspiration.
I highly recommend this book.

Monochrome Street Photography

Nature's Monochrome

We had a good ol' fashion heavy wet wind blowin snow storm today in Northeastern Massachusetts.
This is the view outside my office window at about 4pm today.
I love when the snow sticks on on the trees...Nature can be so pretty

This little boy was a fantastic skater...he was going so fast and working up a sweat that he eventually took off his little jacket and just skated with a short sleeve T-Shirt...I would not be surprised if he turned out to be the next Bobby Orr (Boston Bruins defenseman from the 1970s, who is considered to be one of, if not the, the greatest hockey players of all time)

Waiting in Line...

Went on a Photo Safari™ in Boston with friends on Saturday. After a bite to eat we walked to the Boston Commons to watch the skaters on Frog Pond....What fun they all had, from the beginners holding on the the edge of the rink to the twirlers in the middle of the rink.
But the time we left the area, there was a long long line of folks waiting to get their turn to skate.

CDIA at Night

As some of you may know, I have been contemplating going back to school for photography at CDIA (Boston University's Center for Digital Imaging Arts) in Waltham MA. I have already gone for the admissions interview and  tonight I made a trip to CDIA for a Lecture with Jack Reznicki, a professional commercial photographer from New York City.

Jack is a fabulous photographer and it was a very interesting and fun evening to view his work and to listen to his stories.

Meet Gerald, Manager of Community Affairs at Beverly Hospital. I applaud Gerald for orchestrating a wonderful and successful Annual Meeting for Northeast Health System in Danvers Ma this evening.
Gerald is also a colleague of mine and had given me  the opportunity of being the professional photographer for the evening.
(this is my favorite photo of the evening ...this is the face of relief knowing that the Annual Meeting was over for another year)

Mother and Son

When my son was in High School he took photography as a freshman as a replacement course for something else that had been cancelled.  He discovered that he loved it, and also love the process of developing film in the dark room..I loved watching him grow as a photographer for four years while he was in high school. I remember when i gave him his first Canon DSLR for christmas one year...he was THRILLED.
It was during his time in High School that my son introduced me to the art of photography and I slowly became interested.  And now it has become MY passion. Although my son is now in college and has found his studies and his passion for writing has taken some of his time for photography...I still love to watch his passion for photography when he does pick up that camera. I love sharing this love with my son.

Try hard to find out what you're good at and what your passions are,
and where the two converge, and build your life around that.
